A Research Associate II manages the development of protocols, protocol implementation, and protocol closure processes; or another major project within a large project, such as website or database development and management, or quality improvement program. The Associate II participates in activities to improve the overall quality of work and the working environment. A Research Associate II may support scientific or other high level committees, if assigned.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Manage and complete small projects such as protocol development and implementation or website and portal maintenance from start to finish independently, consulting with their manager and other staff as needed, and informing them appropriately.
  • Utilize refined project management skills and use all project management tools effectively.
  • Develop new tools or templates that may be needed to facilitate project work.
  • Proactively guide and direct teams or groups to accomplish goals in a timely manner.
  • Ensure quality documents, database and website information by participating in quality assurance activities.
  • Actively participate in staff and group meetings and working groups; identify issues and concerns that may need to be addressed by a working group and volunteer to lead the working group.
  • Keep their manager informed of any issues.
  • Proactively update the database to ensure all information is current and accurate, and effectively use database reports as project management tools.
  • Function independently, and manage a heavy workload as well as several priorities concurrently.
  • Participate in the mentoring and training of other staff.
  • Support one or more committees, if assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position should have the following education/experience and demonstrate mastery of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and at least five years professional experience in a scientific or health-related position or Bachelor’s degree in a non-scientific field and at least six years of experience in a scientific or health-related position
  • Master’s degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • At least two years of experience in the design, development, conduct or analysis of clinical research.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which may include business and technical writing, editing, and proofreading
  • Must be proficient and have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
