    Responsible for assisting with implementing research studies associated with the National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS) Clinical Research Unit with a primary focus on participant recruitment. The Study Recruiter will be part of a team that consists of research nurses, study coordinators, therapists, and study manager. The position is based onsite at the NIEHS CRU in Research Triangle Park, NC and is part of a SSS team that staffs and manages the NIEHS Clinical Research Unit.




    1. Initially the study recruiter will be primarily responsible for recruitment, with responsibilities growing over time to include other aspects of human subject research studies. S/he will:
    2. Gather recruitment specifications from investigators and identify candidate pools from which to recruit.
    3. Actively pre-screen and schedule participants by phone, track and report on efforts and study enrollment/completion.
    4. Log participants in centralized database and track recruitment screenings and efforts.
    5. Update metrics on implementation, recruiting, conduct, and coordination of a variety of clinical research studies within the Clinical Research Unit (CRU).
    6. Independently monitor scheduling windows and follow timelines to arrange follow-up visits.
    7. Provide participants with study related materials as needed.
    8. Facilitate resolution of screening process issues, scheduling conflicts and/or barriers with the study team.
    9. Assist in the development of recruitment and participant materials based on protocol needs.
    10. Identify outreach opportunities to increase the NIEHS Clinical Research Units visibility in the Triangle, foster collaborative relationships with area organizations, and develop recruitment partnerships.
    11. Ability to implement established recruitment strategies as well as organize and plan new recruitment strategies.
    12. Assist with preparing ad hoc, progress and technical reports.
    13. Contribute to the development of new study procedures, including screening scripts, electronic databases, and checklists, as new studies are implemented.
    14. Work collaboratively with research teams and assist with other coordinating activities.
    15. Follow local laws and regulations, NIH guidelines, SOPs and specific protocol procedures.


    Bachelor's Degree with minimum 1 year of experience in public health, clinical research or related field. Minimum 2 years of experience conducting recruitment screening interviews or customer service support. Experience with using online collaborative document/spreadsheet tools (i.e. Microsoft Office). Experience with scheduling and calendar management tools. Basic understanding of data collection, data management and data security. Experience with a Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) a plus.
