Under general direction, writes, edits, and proofreads highly technical or scientific material, involving complex terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Develops concepts and approaches for project plans and technical reports.
  • Writes, edits, and proofreads documents and materials for clients.  
  • Attends technical meetings and writes meeting minutes.
  • Assists clients in the development of written communication pieces.
  • Guides staff members in development of written communication pieces.
  • Maintains archives and project files.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with major in English, journalism or communications or relevant scientific area and seven years of experience in editing or writing scientific or technical material (High school completion and two years work experience in writing and editing may be substituted for degree)
  • Advanced technical editing, proofreading and writing skills - including working with graphic files
  • Compentence in MS Word (especially tables), PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Knowledge of Government Printing Office and University of Chicago style manuals
  • Familiarity with Section 508 concepts, PDF remediation techniques, and HTML coding a plus
